Marlin Woodle was born on July 5th, 1912 in Texas. He was enlisted at Camp Wolters on February 23, 1942. Woodle's early letters were written to his parents from Camp Wolters, Texas, in May 1942. By July 3, 1942, Marlin had become a member of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia. By October 1942, he was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Around November 8, 1942, he visited New York and then went back to North Carolina. At the time, his sister lived in Etter, Texas, and his other family lived in Weatherford, Texas. On April 23, 1943, he was moved to New York. By May 15, 1943, Marlin was in North Africa. On June 12, he wrote, "A person doesn't realize just how good it is to be an American until he has been in countries like this and seen how the people live...." Early December 1943 found Marlin in Italy. The summer of 1944 brought him to England. Woodle died in October 1991.
