Nicholas Drabish was born on December 14, 1918, in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Wasil (Charlie) and Mary Drabish, Polish immigrants who arrived in the United States in 1914. Wasil worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. According to the 1930 census, Nicholas had an older sister named Anna (born abt. 1917) and three younger brothers, Steve (1920 to 2000), George (1922 to 1996), and Frank (1924 to 1998). All four of the Drabish boys served in the military during World War II. Nicholas Drabish enlisted at Fort George C. Meade, Maryland, on November 25, 1941, just a few weeks before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. While serving in the Army, he obtained the rank of 1st Sergeant. He survived the War and eventually lived in Parkville, Baltimore County, Maryland. Nicholas Drabish passed away on April 10, 2007, at the age of 88.
